Louis J. Alfieri, Esq.*

Louis J. Alfieri practices all aspects of Intellectual Property law and serves as Of Counsel to Grasso PLLC. The range of Mr. Alfieri's practice covers the entire life of patents and other intellectual property rights, from the planning and procurement of intellectual property rights, to the maintenance and enforcement of those rights. His practice focuses primarily on patent and trademark prosecution, intellectual property litigation, intellectual property counseling, and all aspects of Section 337 unfair trade practice before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

Mr. Alfieri's intellectual property experience includes extensive patent practice as well as trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation in a variety of industries. He is skilled and experienced in many technical areas such as optics, quantum computing, micro-circuitry including chip layout, composition, and manufacture, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, nanotechnology, software, and business methods.

The scope of his practice extends to matters of both foreign and domestic intellectual property acquisition, protection, and counseling. This includes the representation of foreign clients who find themselves facing U.S. intellectual property issues. In addition, Mr. Alfieri has considerable experience advising domestic clients facing unfair trade practices from abroad.

Mr. Alfieri has litigated patent matters in federal courts, including complex pharmaceutical cases under the Hatch Waxman Act. He also litigates Section 337 unfair trade practice cases before the International Trade Commission. Mr. Alfieri is a member of the International Trade Commission Trial Lawyer’s Association, and has been a contributing author on a leading publication on Section 337 practice.

Mr. Alfieri regularly prosecutes patents before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. From drafting patent applications to representation before the Board on matters of appeal, Mr. Alfieri handles all aspects of practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In addition, Mr. Alfieri handles post-grant matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, such as ex-partes and inter-partes re-examination proceedings. His considerable re-examination experience allows Mr. Alfieri to provide counsel on this U.S. PTO practice in patent licensing transactions, as part of a litigation strategy, or in lieu of costlier, slower federal court litigation altogether.

Mr. Alfieri's extensive experience in both patent litigation and prosecution is valued for providing broad, long-term, strategic advice related to building, maintaining, and enforcing a formidable and profitable patent portfolio.
