James Prizant

James Prizant, Esq.

Mr. Prizant serves as Of Counsel to Grasso PLLC. Mr. Prizant has many years of experience in both the public and private sectors of intellectual property law, having worked both as a patent examiner and as counsel to large intellectual property law firms in Washington, D.C. and New York City.

His early experience as a patent examiner provided him with an insider's appreciation for the workings and procedures of the Patent Office – a complex and often daunting bureaucracy – that continues to be of benefit in his practice. Mr. Prizant has deep experience with every step of patent procurement and the development of patent portfolios for clients of every size and sort, both in the United States and abroad.

Mr. Prizant counsels clients on numerous legal issues relating to the analysis, acquisition, and use of intellectual property rights, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

Mr. Prizant takes a comprehensive approach to the development and use of intellectual property. In addition to working with inventors to protect their technology, Mr. Prizant counsels clients on the best methods for exploiting their intellectual property, with an eye towards enhancing their competitive posture in the marketplace. Mr. Prizant also advises and educates his clients on the scope and possible uses of the intellectual property rights held by others, and has worked closely with corporate counsel and venture capital firms on the evaluation of intellectual property portfolios both large and small.

His skills have been applied across a broad range of technologies, including medical devices, electro-photographic machines, semiconductor fabrication and packaging, automotive equipment, manufacturing processes and systems, engines, aircraft, navigation systems, exercise equipment, magnetic resonance imaging, food packaging, specialized materials, and industrial designs.

Mr. Prizant is also adept at assisting clients both in designing around and in spotting weaknesses in the patents of their competitors.
